I didn't realize this game was so hated today. I remember it getting really good reviews in EGM back in the day and they could be notoriously tough on games.

I remember enjoying the first few hours, but as you point out, man, does this thing drag. You don't realize how well paced the first three games are until you play Code Veronica.

If any RE games need remakes, it's Zero and Code Veronica for sure.

Thanks for the writeup, really been enjoying these RE retrospectives!

It's definitely not as hated as Zero but Veronica definitely catches some strays when the topic of classic RE comes up. From what I've heard, by the time it arrived on PS2 opinion on it had just begun to turn and its reputation has only deteriorated as the years have gone by.

It's something of a cursed game for me at this point because despite playing it 5 times I've never managed to finish it. First time I quit to get it on Dreamcast, 2nd time I hit the Tyrant fight and had to restart, third time I hit a wall as Chris, fourth time my Dreamcast GD ROM broke and I had to replace it and this year: my 5th attempt has ended because my disc 2 is somehow broken.

Those are two, I couldn't agree more, flashes of brilliance in the dark of poor game design.

I really appreciate it! I've noticed my subscribers are really into this series despite wider Substack not tuning in but that's okay for me, I'm, here writing for you guys; next time will be Zero and the final episode for now.

It's great to see someone who appreciate Code Veronica! I don't particularly vibe with this game, but I see its merits. That being said, I think this is the Resident Evil that really needs a remake the most. I've heard rumors that Zero is up next, but Code Veronica should come right after that.
