Coming Next: March 2026
Everything in the pipeline.
Collaboration With Infinite Lives
Back in October, in the midst of my long retrospective series on classic Resident Evil, me and Harrison Polites of Infinite Lives got talking about the franchise and decided that a collaboration was in order; this month, these plans are coming to fruition. I can’t put a precise date or time on it but very soon we’ll be discussing/reviewing Resi 9 together.
Week 1: 007 Nightfire Review
Last year I had planned to tackle all the major Bond games in the run up to First Light; Goldeneye was my first ever article on the Journal but I didn’t get the chance to do the others. Nightfire is my latest retro game addiction and it happens to be the most beloved game by fans of the Bond films, so this month I’ll be reviewing this classic shooter and comparing it to Goldeneye on the N64 in a battle of the Bonds.
Week 2: Hearts Of Iron IV: Old World Blues Mod Review
It’s no secret that I’m a bit of a HOI4 fiend: 2213 hours and counting so far but even I get tired of the same old focus trees, the same old World War 2 and the same old problems that Paradox refuses to fix so this month I’m going to be writing about the incredibly popular Fallout-themed mod: Old World Blues. In this mod, the player can choose from hundreds of tribes and polities and fight others in the ruins of a post-nuclear Western United States and Northern Mexico.
Week 3: Ranking The Resident Evil Games
I’ve written extensively about the Resident Evil franchise on this publication, shared which one is my favourite and given most of the series a thorough going over with the critical stick but never before have I ranked them. This month I’ll be ranking the mainline Resident Evil games (plus a couple of spin-offs) and we’ll see where Requiem sits once I’ve had a few weeks to replay it and to digest the experience.
Week 4: Every N64 FPS Part 1: Turok
The original plan with this Substack was to go through each Nintendo 64 FPS game in chronological order (not unlike Dylan Cornelius’ NES work over on Nintendo is Great) since my non-gaming articles aren’t setting the world on fire for the most part, I’d like to return to this original mission with an article about a Nintendo 64 shooter once a month until we’ve covered them all. Depending on who you ask, there are about 17-20 FPS games for the ‘64 so this should keep me going for quite some time.

Keep on keepin' on!
