I feel like I could do a respectable job of this with just indie 3D platformer alternatives on Steam. There are so many worthwhile options in every genre these days that it doesn't seem like re-releasing pared down and taped together ports of older games is going to cut it anymore. Not that that'll stop them trying.
Absolutely could and of course, Steam Sales are usually laden with great games (I can't tell you how many times I've seen The Witcher 3 on sale for a fiver.)
A simple remaster isn't enough to pique my interest these days unless the game is ancient or has some extras. Capcom's Resident Evil remakes have made everyone else look embarrassing
Good job in spotlighting how affordable retrogaming can be, at least if one is willing to compromise and isn't interested in proper collecting. While prices have been rising steadily in the past decade, there are still plenty of rather cheap opportunities dependong on one's tastes.
As for those remasters, their graphical downgrade is really bizarre but, then again, there has been no shortage of controversies since Switch 2's release.
As someone who ended up building a sizeable Switch physical collection over the years, mostly focused on RPGs and shoot'em ups, the best thing Switch 2 has done for me so far has been finally convincing me to buy a Rog Ally X, and I honestly couldn't be happier.
Fire Emblem, Xeno and Zelda will bring me back, of course, but I doubt I will build a S2 collection even remotely comparable with its predecessor, especially given the whole GKC situation.
For sure, a proper collector is going to spend hundreds but if you just want to play the games like me? It isn't so bad, that being said there are certain games that I try to get complete in box, these are the ones that mean a lot to me.
It's either public enemy number 1 or the Second Coming, as always there's very little moderation online.
I feel similarly. I have a pretty nice Switch collection and as of now I don't see myself owning any 3rd party games on Switch 2; my PC is very strong and I want full games on cards.

Not only that, it's great to read an article explaining that retro game collection can be accessible when compared to modern alternatives. It can be less convenient, but extremely more rewarding if you know what you're looking for.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head there. It is less fast, less convenient, less instant but in my experience it is generally cheaper (with some exceptions of course.)

I agree that old console games are much more accessible than people think. Personally, I opted to buy a Analogue Mega SG to play my old Mega Drive favorites as my original console sadly died many years ago.
