I owned an original Xbox at the time, and this reminded me of the size of it. In the early 2000's I would often take my console to friends houses to play together. The N64 could fit nicely in a backpack, along with cables, 2 controllers, all my games and have room to spare. The Xbox console alone took up the entire bag and the weight of it really dug into my shoulders! 😄

Of course I had Halo (reason why I got it), but I really liked Sega's post-Dreamcast era on the Xbox too. Jet Set Radio Future and Panzer Dragoon Orta were highlights, and I still listen to JSRF's soundtrack today. I'm also proud of the fact I completed Ninja Gaiden (easiest difficulty!), something I probably cannot do now.

That’s no mean feat, Ninja Gaiden games are rock solid.

I remember pondering moving my console around too, was always wondering if I’d be able to lift it without help as a kid haha

I had a lotta fun with the OG Xbox... for about 2 years. After that, my games started glitching out at random times, freezing often, and the Xbox would make a loud whirring noise.

I can't remember if it finally died or if I sold it, but yeah, my specific console was not a well-built machine. Ditto 360... but I'll wait to talk about that one.

Still lots of great games on it, though, and for apparently rock bottom prices?! I had no idea. If nothing else, you can get a 360 and play most original Xbox games on it.

If there's one thing Microsoft have never done well it's build quality/durability. I still remember the 360 days and having to replace my headset every 2-3 months because no matter how well you treated them, no matter how much you took care not to handle the cable roughly or remembered to hang it someplace safe, it would always just... stop working. And who could forget the infamous red ring?

That's because Xbox fans/collectors purposely try not to mention it! They're sly, they know retro gaming in general is only getting more expensive and the Xbox is probably the cheapest console to run (the Wii is also dirt cheap here at about £40 but the games aren't that cheap.)

I've come across so many threads online where they get spooked because a YouTuber or some other talking head points out how cheap the Xbox is and how good the games are, it's really funny.

Yeah seems like MS got their hardware sorted out around the Xbox One days, but then ran into other issues. If it's not one thing, it's another!

That is really smart! I'll have to pick up Jade Empire again. Man, I loved that game. Underrated Bioware classic.

Glad to see the og Xbox getting some love! I never owned one myself, but me and my friend use to play the versus mode on Metal Arms for hours back in the day. Good memories 😊

It's such a good console for hidden gems, it has so many great games/exclusives that just ended up forgotten or never became franchises
