Thank you very much! The PSP is one of those devices where a lot of its best games have rarely escaped the platform and there is a certain title trapped on there I've been wanting to play for over 10 years so expect to see more PSP :)

I've always been more a software solution kind of guy when it comes to playing older games, so emulators are my go to. It looks fun tinkering with the hardware though, so long as you know what you're doing. I like your setup.
If you're playing a PS1 game though that used the dual shock, how does having one analogue nub on the PSP work?

I'm generally an original hardware purist but there are certain consoles I'm just not interested in owning and in the PSP's case: it was always able/made to play PS1 games, just the means of acquiring them legitimately no longer really exists so I have no problem tinkering here. It was so so easy and I've been playing my PSP daily since.
That's a good question. To my knowledge the only game/s that REQUIRE DualShock on PS1 were/are Ape Escape so the answer there is... don't play Ape Escape on PSP, there are workarounds but most people just choose to avoid it. As for games that used DualShock but didn't require it? It just functions as it should. What's really cool though is that you can choose to have the analogue stick as an extra button; I'm halfway through a Resident Evil 3 playthrough on PSP right now and my map button is flicking down on the analogue.
It's a shame you didn't get a Steam Deck before they required a home loan to afford - you can get a decent upper-body workout while playing just by physically holding it in portable mode.
If the Playstation Store no longer works, does that mean there's no legitimate way to play a localized version of Brandish: The Dark Revenant? I don't think they ever released it in the west outside of digital.

I've heard the legends of the Steam Deck's heft lol and it's insane to me that it's now around a grand for the OLED version of that console, especially when its hardware is weaker than the Switch 2 at less than half the price. Valve truly don't get enough stick for some of the things they do, one of those companies the internet says you're not allowed to criticise.
I should clarify it SORT OF still does work but the means of getting PS1 games onto your PSP is very convoluted and involves you wilfully passing up better hardware. As far as I know, the way you can still do it is by buying them on the Vita (a console I don't own and have very little desire to get) and feeding games from that onto your PS3 then back into the PSP? Something like that? The point is... I'm not pissing about with all that, Sony.
Unfortunately, I'd have to guess the answer to your question is yes since from what I hear of the Vita store, it exists in a zombified state similar to the late-Xbox 360's where a good 2/3 of the products are delisted.
That's a shame, but at least it's still better than the state of the 3DS eShop.
There's plenty to complain about with the Deck but it is an unrivaled emulation machine - Switch 2 might have more power but all that power doesn't help it run PS1 games with minimum effort. Hell, I was able to play Demons Souls on a plane, who would have thought the day would ever come?
This encourages me to search for a new battery to my old PSP and give it a go. I tried to emulate PSX on my New 3DS, but the performance was far from ideal (plus, it felt like heresy).
Love this so much. My PSP was my absolute emulation device in college (2005). Felt so cool playing FF6 on snes on my PSP

That's more impressive than the Switch 2 running something like Elden Ring tbh, the PS3 is a notorious pain in the ass to emulate.
